After a quick coffee at Maccas the run will head off for a 40km drive up to Wisemans Ferry on the Northern Road starting from 7:30am sharp.  If you miss the start, ring Andrew and continue on to Wisemans Ferry and with any luck you will catch the group at the ferry or at the next Waypoint on Mangrove Mountain.

From Wisemans Ferry the route will take us along Wisemans Ferry Road for 43kms through the township of Spencer along the northern bank of the Hawksbury River and head up to Mangrove Mountain which is the best 40km section of MX-5 road on the fringe of the urban sprawl.  There are no sealed roads leading off Wisemans Ferry Road from the ferry crossing to Mangrove Mountain that could cause anyone to get lost before the waypoint at Mangrove Mountain.

Once the run reforms it will continue on Wisemans Ferry Road through Mangrove Mountain locality taking the right fork in the road at its intersection with Bloodtree Road for Central Mangrove.  At the intersection with George Downes Road the route will turn right to head to Peats Ridge and then along Peats Ridge Road to Calga.  Be aware that the speed limit is 80kph due to its popularity with enthusiastic motorcyclists and their blue shadow, so don’t allow yourself to lose concentration.

The run will reform again on Peats Ridge Road before the M1 and then continue under the M1 to enter the freeway from Calga and continue on to the Mount White exit taking the slip road.  Crossing over the M1 the route turns right onto the Old Pacific Highway heading north about a kilometre to stop at the old Road Warrior for breakfast amongst the motor bikes.

Be aware that the speed limit is 80kph on Wisemans Ferry Road and Peats Ridge Roads where due to its popularity with enthusiastic motor cyclists and their blue shadow you should not allow your awareness and concentration on your instrument panel to drift off.

From the Old Road Warrior the run will return to the M1 as far as the slip road to Mooney Mooney and the Hawkesbury River Bridge that will be crossed on the Old Pacific Highway to travel up to the Pie in the Sky and finish.  Participants will have the option of joining members for Coffee and Pies or continuing home for lunch.

This short run is an H graded waypoint run of 139kms where you drive at whatever pace you feel most comfortable without any obligation to keep up with the car in front.  You are obliged to slow down and move aside to allow any following cars wishing to pass you flashing his head lights to pass when safe to do so.  There are no podium finishes or prizes, it is a fun run.

You should arrive at the PITS between 10:30am and 11:000am. For those attending with GPS please enter the following Waypoints taken off Google maps:

Wisemans Ferry Wharf (i.e. the south bank ramp for the car ferry).  On crossing the river the run will reform on the north bank and then head up Wisemans Ferry Road to Mangrove Mountain.

  1. Intersection Wisemans Ferry & Ikara Road, Mangrove Mountain this waypoint is at the top of a climb up from Spencer after we break out of the State Forest and enter farmland stopping outside Marian Grove Nursery.
  2. 192 George Down Driver, Central Mangrove, this point is just after the intersection of Wisemans Ferry and George Down Roads and after we turn right into George Downs Drive we continue without stopping heading for Peats Ridge.
  3. The Peats Ridge Service Centre.  This is at the site of the old Oak Milk Bar and now the Corrugated Café where we will reform, if necessary, for the run down to Calga on Peats Ridge Road.
  4. Peats Ridge & Jones Road, Calga.  The waypoint is on a large straight section at the end of Peats Ridge Road before the M1 where we will reform about 1 km south of Jones Road to enter the M1 at Calga for the Mount White exit a few kilometres down the freeway.
  5. Intersection Pacific Highway & Old Pacific Highway Mooney Mooney just off the slip road to cross the Hawkesbury River Bridge and head up to the PITS.
