Notmeet X: Glen Innes

Continuing in the tradition of holding Notmeet at Easter in the non Natmeet years, 2017 sees us returning to the Celtic Country of Glen Innes in the NSW New England Highlands.

The NSW and Queensland Clubs join to spend the long weekend cruising some of the great roads of the New England. There are lots of man-made and natural attractions in the region to ensure you have a great time.

The run will officially kick off from McDonald's Thornton, Thornton Rd (just off New England Highway) at 8:30am for a 9:00am start on Good Friday.

UPDATE: Please park outside the Pet Quarters building on the left as you enter the main carpark (highlighted in yellow below) so as to avoid the traffic to and from the McDonalds drive thru and to allow an easier exit for us.

Our accommodation in Glen Innes is at the New England Motor Lodge. The property has recently been sold but the new owners are eager to look after us in the excellent fashion of their predecessors. There is a choice of different grade rooms plus the meals package - dinner each night (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) and a breakfast each morning (Saturday, Sunday and Monday).

Our trip to Glen Innes will take us via Gloucester, Walcha and Armidale.

Saturday we will cross the Gibraltar Range and descend to the river city of Grafton for lunch. You have two options for the return route, either retrace the Gwydir Highway (330km round trip) or take the longer and more spirited drive via the Nymboida Corkscrew (425km round trip).

Sunday will feature a pleasant drive through the heartland of the New England Region with lot's to see (355km round trip). We'll even visit a heritage site with a difference, the Wing Hing Long & Co Museum. Entry to the museum including a light morning tea is $10 per person. Our lunch stop will be in Uralla. Our return journey will include a visit to Peterson's Winery to check out the local product. Wine tasting is available at a cost of $5.50 per person (redeemable against purchases). For those not interested in wine tasting, drinks are available for purchase. You are welcome to look around the grounds of the historic homestead although some garden access may be restricted due to a private function held that afternoon. Note, there is 500m of well formed gravel driveway to the winery. If your car is afraid of dirt there is room to park just inside the gates and walk to the cellar.

On Monday we return to the Hunter Region via Inverell, Bingara, Tamworth and the New England Highway. Alternatively you are welcome to make your own arrangements.
