Canberra Chapter Presentation & Christmas Lunch 2016

Nearly 50 Canberra Chapter members attended the Annual Presentation and Christmas Lunch at the Yowani Country Club on Saturday, 10 December 2016.

The Social Committee arrived early to set up the tables and ensure everything was ready for a great time together. People arrived and, as usual, much chatter ensued over a drink. The Convenor rounded up the group into the function room and there was the buffet lunch laid out for us. Everyone was impressed with the selection and quality of the food. No one went hungry and a few admitted to eating just a little too much. The room was a good size and had plenty of soft surfaces which made conversation at the tables pleasant.

Once the main course was completed the Convenor, Norm Barker, gave a short overview of the year and made the presentations. The NSW Club had decided that there had not been proper recognition of the past Chapter Convenors and so had issued very nice scarves with the Club Logo, Convenor’s Chapter, their surname, and the period they were Convenor. As Tony and Iris McDonald were present they were presented with the scarves and thanked for their considerable contribution.

Two of the other previous Convenors were presented with their scarves the previous week, one will be delivered and the first Convenor’s scarf will be mailed. Membership badges for those present were formally given out and others were presented to members at other events or posted out. Our two longest serving members (15 years), John Brown and Malcolm Bernhardt, were presented with their badges, as was Ken Keeling with his 10 year membership.

Run leaders put in a lot of effort designing, checking venues and road conditions and then leading a convoy and there was a small gift to all these members in recognition of their efforts.

The presentation of the Members of the Year followed:

New Member Of The Year went to Wal and Jane Hick who had contributed and been enthusiastic members from the day they joined. They were presented with the perpetual trophy and a personal trophy.

Member Of The Year went to Michael Guina, who had been a consistent participant in all our events throughout the years, but was unable to be at the lunch. His trophies were delivered to him at his home the following day.

Russell Battisson Memorial Trophy for the Canberra Chapter Motorsport Member Of The Year went to Martyn Voormeulen who was not able to be at the lunch but Peter Battisson presented him his trophies at the Sunday track day.

Ed Cory had supplied the trophy for everyone to see (won by the MX5 Club of NSW) for the 2016 NSW State Supersprint Championship - a hat trick after our wins in 2014 and 2015!  We are not the first club to win a hat trick, but it is our first and we have now won more than any other club - this is our 10th win!  More details below in the motorsport report. Peter Battisson gave a summary of the efforts of the club in this championship.

Three lucky people also won door prizes: A hamper went to Barry Matson, and Joyce Woods and Kerry Evans each won Wine and Chocolate.

The event was a very good completion of a successful year of the Canberra Chapter and all were looking forward to another year sharing our enjoyment of our cars and each other’s company.
