Historic Sports and Racing Car Association (HSRCA)

20 March 2017 / Ian Combes and Richard Cardew (president of the HSRCA)

The MX-5 Club has been approached by the Historic Sports and Racing Car Association (HSRCA) about club members potentially getting involved in their track days. HSRCA track days are primarily race meetings, but HSRCA are planning to include sprint events and/or regularity events within their race meetings that can be entered on a club (L2S) licence.
The HSRCA is a club focused upon CAMS 5th Category Cars (historic), but the 5th category has not moved with the times, especially for production cars without an individual race history. HSRCA believes that it is time to update the 5th Category if they are to continue to serve as a broadly-based club with objectives that involve the promotion of motor sport that reflects the history of the sport. The Club was formed in 1978, just 2 years after the first all historic meeting in NSW, which was run by the Vintage Sports Cars Club of Australia that constitutionally was limited to catering for cars built prior to 1961. So originally some of the cars that were deemed historic were relatively younger, perhaps much younger, than today.

The next HSRCA meeting is at Wakefield Park on 8/9 April, with private practice on the 7th. The other two weekend meetings are: Wakefield Park 2/3 September and Sydney Motor Sport Park Gardner Circuit 11/12 November. These meetings are race meetings, but can also include sprints and regularity.

At their next meeting,  HSRCA are offering (numbers permitting), a super sprint grid and a second regularity grid for cars built before 1998 or not complying with HSRCA's traditional regularity. Other grids will cover most 5th category (historic) groups and consequently some interesting and significant cars and drivers will be present. If you are interested in historic racing cars, then these events may be well worth turning up for that reason alone.

So, if you have a pre-1998 NA, and would like to enter sprint and/or regularity events at the HSRCA meeting on the 8/9 April, please call Richard Cardew (president of the HSRCA) on 0405 459 546.

The club will continue discussions with HSRCA about future involvement in their events. If you have questions about this invitation from HSRCA, please email competition@mx5.com.au or call Ian Combes on 0433159726.
