Meet our man at the ND MX-5 unveiling

The global reveal of the new generation MX-5 is happening this Thursday from 11am with simultaneous events in Japan, USA and Spain. Ben Sale from the MX-5 Club of Vic/Tas is the lucky bugger that Mazda has chosen to send to California to cover the event on behalf of the MX-5 Clubs of Australia (and for Mazda's own magazine). He'll be sending through his impressions of the car, the event and anything else he thinks will be of interest, starting with this message from the departure lounge in Melbourne this morning:

Since April 2008, I've been a member of the MX-5 Club of Victoria and Tasmania and I have been lucky enough to get much out of my membership. These cars are all about fun and the great thing about the MX-5 Club is that the mantra behind the car is also the backbone of the club's philosophy. The demographic mix is wide and the people attracted are an eclectic mix … however, everyone is here for the same reason, to enjoy these great little cars!

I’ve not been one to shy away from getting involved and about four years ago I was convinced (conned) to join the club's committee and have subsequently found the manta "the more you put in, the more you get out" to be very true. My partner Alex Hailstone is also an MX-5 owner, club and committee member and owns a 1995 NA8 which compliments my 1990 NA6. Incredibly my MX-5 and I both share the same April 1990 build date, however after much love, money and time it would be fair to argue that the MX-5 is in better condition!

From track days to club runs I have enjoyed everything that makes the club great. With thanks to Mazda Australia I am now about to embark on another great opportunity, visiting America for the launch of the new ND MX-5. I look forward to sending through my impressions of the new car and the 25th anniversary event at Laguna Seca where over 1800 cars have registered. Can't wait!

Cheers
