Reggie's Hawkesbury Valley Run

27 October 2014 / Words and photos - Adam Walker

Around a year ago, we decided to try a new thing with the BreakFast Club: to have some short (100km) runs on a Saturday to cater to members that has a busy Sunday.

This run did not disappoint! Thanks to Bryan's weekly events email, I had an influx of phone calls the night before the run - this was going to be a great run!

Everyone met up at Mount Colah McDonalds for a quick coffee and a run brief for the morning. It was decided to convert this to a convoy run instead of the traditional BreakFast Club's Waypoint run.

11 cars with 14 members (and two future members) left the car park at Mount Colah and headed south before a spirited run down the always fun Galston Gorge. From there we picked up another member at Arcadia and made our way down to the first stop at Wisemans Ferry. After the re-group it was time to hit the famous River Road, the 45km stretch snaking along the southern end of the Hawkesbury River. The bumps and undulations were a real test for everyone's suspension. If you haven't done this road before, put it on your list of MX-5 friendly roads - the longest straight bit of road is about 300m. We promptly arrived at our ferry crossing at Sackville. The ferry operators managed to fit us all on for the quick dash across the Hawkesbury.

I could hear stomachs grumbling as we crossed the river. From there it was only a quick 15 minute blast to our final destination at the Bellbird Echo Cafe, Kurrajong Hills where we re-arranged the furniture and had a great brunch. From there everyone said their farewells and departed in every direction towards home.

If anyone finds themselves up on the Bells Line of Road, definitely make the Bellbird Echo Cafe a priority stop!
