Club Regularity
Our club held it's first full-day regularity event three years ago at the Marulan Driver Training Centre (read the story). The facility was completely redeveloped and renamed as Pheasant Wood in early 2018. We are now holding another regularity to try it out for timed events.
Marulan is on the Hume Hwy about 20 minutes north of Goulburn. The track is a purpose built driver training track about 10 minutes from the highway. The track is very tight and twisty, with limited run off, but is challenging and can be rewarding for MX-5 drivers.
A regularity is a form of Motorsport where absolute speed has minimal bearing on the overall results. Each driver nominates a target lap time after completing one or more practice sessions. In the competition they then aim to lap the circuit as close as possible to that target lap time. Points are lost if they go faster than their nominated target time, and bonus points are scored if they lap close to their target time. The driver with the most points at the conclusion of the event is the winner.
Like at a track day, drivers will be placed in groups based on their nominated target times, to minimise the speed differences between cars in each group and reduce the need for overtaking.
A regularity is a great competition because car modification and speed are not very important, and the driver in the slowest car could win!
This is a stand-alone event, and the results do not count towards the club track day championship.
Scoring for this events will be advised shortly.
Entries are now open!
Apologies for the delay, but we had some significant technical issues with our event entry system, which was compounded by last weekend being the Alfa 12 hour...
Many thanks to David Lawler for sorting it out!
Please ignore the class information in the event entry screen - it doesn't apply for this regularity event.
Since many people won't have a time for the Pheasants Wood Circuit (even those that have driven there on driver training days), so please use your Wakefield Park time. If you do happen to actually have a Pheasants Wood time, send that to the event secretary (eventsec@mx5.com.au) or the competition secretary (competition@mx5.com.au) - we don't want a mixture of times in the system if we can help it.
