NORTH TO THE “CORKSCREW”, GOING NORTH; THE RUSH IS ON!

On the road for a huge rush, another bucket list event!

Get yourself moving and up to Patrick Bramston's Mountain View Motel in Bulahdelah, where I have reserved 12 rooms for Friday 9th November 2018. Patrick and Merle will have plenty of finger food -$25/head- available for the night’s gathering. We can chill out for the evening with good company and lots of conversation, BYO grog but go easy, remember 0.05.

Starting in Bulahdelah, from Patricks Mountain View Motel at 6.30am -coffee, tea, juice, toast & cereal included- for a 7.00am sharp start -6.00am sharp for 6.30am for the early starters- on Saturday morning, we run the “Nurbushring”. With little or no time to do multiple runs -want extra runs? start at 6am for 3 runs up and down, the perfect start to a magic weekend- unless those doing it catch up on the road or at breakfast.

Day 1. Brunch is at the “Riverbank Café” in Gladstone. We only have one hour, and we head for the “Canopy Café” in the “Dorrigo National Park” for coffee, -just 30 minutes- then “The Magic” a run down and back -as many as you dare- on the “Sensational Corkscrew”.

Once again anybody wanting to do a repeat is welcome and can catch up at the “Old Butter Factory” in Bellingen. There we take a coffee-break for 30 minutes, or, on to the City Centre Motel Kempsey.

Day 2. A run up the Oxley Highway to Walcha for breakfast of 1 hour. Then on to “Thunderbolts Way”.

Next stop is at the “Roadies Café” in Gladstone for coffee 45 minutes and farewells as we head back to Sydney, Canberra and elsewhere.

Everyone can do as many repeats or their favourite sections as they like and get to the City Centre Motel Kempsey whenever they choose, which is a flexible approach. Hoping to have dinner at 7.30pm, venue TBA.

Start Options:
To keep the run to a two-day event, everyone has the option of driving up to Patrick Bramston’s Mountain View Motel at Bulahdelah for the night on Friday 9th November 2018 (maximum of 20 cars with overflow accommodation elsewhere or double up at Pat’s place, snorers on the lawn!). Or drive up at sparrows on Saturday morning in time to start at 7,00am, or catch up at the brekkie stop.
The drive from Hornsby to Bulahdelah on the M1 is around 2.5 hours. Breakfast/brunch will be at the Riverbank Café, 8 Kinchela Street Gladstone overlooking the junction of the Macleay and Belmore Rivers.
Two Epic Climbs:
The Corkscrew Weekend is designed to tick off two of the best bucket list MX-5 climbs in NSW.
The mind-bending “Corkscrew” known as the Armidale Road (both down & back up) that snakes it way up along the eastern escarpment of the Great Dividing Range for 45km between Nymboida and Tyringham on your GPS.
Then on to Dorrigo, on similar roads without the climbing, for another 20km plus the 40km section of the much-loved scintillating “Oxley Highway”, with 200 corners on the ascent to the New England plateau.
Three Iconic Roads:
On the Corkscrew Weekend you can also tick off a bucket list run of three iconic roads.
1. The sensational “Nurbushring” - “Wootton Way” (the Bulahdelah Mountain section of the old Pacific Highway and once the deadliest section of road in NSW before being bypassed).

2. The spectacular “Waterfall Way” from Bellingen to Dorrigo.

3. The fabulous “Thunderbolt’s Way” between Walcha and Gloucester, that features long straights with wide corners intermixed with tight sections over 146km and the Manning River gorge on sealed road.
Refreshment Stops:
We will take refreshments at the “Canopy Café” in the Dorrigo Rainforest National Park facility on Saturday, meet up with some members from the Mid North Coast Chapter for dinner on Saturday night and lunch at “Roadies Café” in Gloucester on Sunday on our way home. The plan is to get back to Hornsby by late Sunday afternoon.
