This section is dedicated to those with MX-5s that seek competition in their driving or occasionally drive harder than is allowed on the road or on social runs.

Motorsport or competitive events are organised by the Motorsport Secretary and we encourage you to contact us regarding events that you would like to see the club host or in which you would like to participate.

An easy and welcoming introduction to motorsport is provided with motorkhana days on the skidpan at Sydney Motorsport Park, and driver training days at Pheasant Wood.

The Mazda MX-5 Club of NSW arranges track days at Wakefield Park and Pheasant Wood in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, and at Sydney Motorsport Park (formerly Eastern Creek) in Sydney's western suburbs. Club track days are held on Saturday or Sunday (sometimes Monday), for the "weekend racers". The Club track days are arranged so that there are a limited number of cars on the tracks during each run, and those cars and drivers are selected to have similar lap times and/or driver experience. Refer to the Events page for the dates of each track day.

For those who enjoy the track days but would like to try their hand at other circuits then we suggest obtaining a Motorsport Australia Speed licence and registering to compete in the NSW Supersprint Championship. The Mazda MX-5 Club of NSW is the most successful Club in this competition. The NSW Supersprint Championship has classes for lightly modified road registered cars through to highly modified race-cars, so there is a class to suit everyone. The MX-5 Club also hosts one round of the NSW Supersprint Championship each year. For more information contact the Motorsport Secretary.

The latest addition to our repertoire is an occasional hillclimb at Ringwood Park near Raymond Terrace, using a variety of different track layouts. Our hillclimb days are designed to offer a convenient motorsport option for MX-5 drivers in the Hunter region and beyond.

For those who want to take the final step into door-to-door racing, you will need to upgrade to a Motorsport Australia or AASA race licence, and then join the legion of MX-5s competing in the MX-5 Cup. There are also other racing options in a variety of race series. For more information on getting started in racing see the MX-5 Racing page.

So if you haven’t given competitive driving a go, why not join us at our next track day. Experienced drivers from within the club will help you get started. Who knows, you may be joining the racing crew in a short time, or like many of our longer serving members just enjoying the fellowship and adrenalin rush of the Club track days.
