Classic Car & Bike Show at Willinga Park

Sunday 12 November

Our usual starting point, when driving down the coast, didn’t disappoint. Nine members plus one visitor, Ann, met for morning tea at the Heritage Bakery in Milton and had a leisurely, unrushed coffee, goodies and a general catchup on all the news since our last event. It was nice to meet our newest member, Nicky Hutteman, and to view her gorgeous red NA. On the way down we picked up James in Lake Tabourie and met Kerry at the event… he was lucky to find us amongst the crowds.

This run was all about the event, rather than the drive. After 30 mins on the road, we arrived at Willinga Park, and for those of us who hadn’t been there before…WOW. This venue is an Olympic standard equestrian centre which greets you with a huge naked male sculpture at the entry. The venue has many sculptures throughout. The grounds and infrastructure have to be seen to be appreciated. One member commented there were more lights on the horse arenas than seen at professional cricket matches. The event was well organised and parking was a breeze, which it often isn’t at big events.

There were more cars on show than bikes. When our convoy arrived, they were keen to direct us to the ‘show’ area; however, we opted for the spectator parking lot. The memorable or interesting cars on show ranged from hot rods & combies through to historic classic cars. Interestingly, they also had some very old victa mowers on display…. not sure how they made it to the exhibition.

The food vans had limited but adequate offerings for lunch and some of us were disappointed there were no chips. The steak and sausage sandwiches were given the thumbs up. We all gathered near the pool, in the shade, and shared our thoughts on the displays. Some of us were going to stroll through the extensive grounds, but opted for ‘next time’.

This place will definitely be worth revisiting at another of their special event days.
