Club Track Day at Pheasant Wood - Round 3

06 August 2020 / Words by Joe Kovacic & Photos by Rob Wilko

A warm and sunny autumn morning greeted a small field of 44 enthusiastic  Motorsport competitors to our Inauguaral round 3 of Club Trackdays at Pheasant Wood.

Our Club President Keith Monaghan explained to our Motorsport Competeitors that this will probably be our last Trackday for the year due to Covid 19 Corona Virus Pandemic. It was good to see that social distancing was being observed throughout the day.

Thanks to our Clerk of Course Ian Coombes  for refining his drivers brief, we managed to get out our first group of drivers on track by 9.00am.

Due to the small field of competitors, we had a total of five run groups. We managed to give everyone 7 sessions with upto 56 timed laps. The Track is a  relatively new circuit and with great track conditions on the new surface there was some fast lap times with no major incidents.

The Trackday was run under a new simplified Class system comprising of 5 Classes including, Standard, Clubman, Super Clubman, Supersprint and Open Class. Benchmark times are used to award points for places in your class. This system is a lot fairer for all competitors, resulting in that any model mx5 from NA through to ND can win their class respectively.

Congratulations goes to David Johnson in his NB8A race car for the fastest lap of the day in 59.29 secs.

Congratulations also goes to Jamie Martin and Andrew Digney for breaking their benchmark times and effectively setting a new Clubman Class record of 63.44 secs.

A special mention and congratulations to our youngest competitor Jaxon Fraser only 14yrs of age. Jaxon broke the benchmark time in his 1990 NA6 Super Clubman Class in a record Time of 61.80 secs. Thank you to all our Motorsport Officials on another successful Club Trackday.
