After missing last week because there wasn’t much to report, we are back this week with 2 events completed.

With both Rob Wilkins and Kaixin Chen taking photos at the 19th June club track day we are spoiled for choice trying to find a favourite photo, so I have featured a photo from each of them this week.

Rob Wilkins has contributed an image (above) of Ian Spinks in MX-5 #62 setting the fastest MX-5 lap time on the day. Kaixin Chen provided an image (below) of 3 cars on the main straight with Mike Kelsey #126 (Red MX-5 SE) looking to put a move on Bryan Shedden #68 (Grey MX-5 NC) up the main straight, with Sean Byers #23 (Red & Black MX-5 NC) following.

MX-5 Cup Round 2 at SMSP GP Circuit – Saturday 15th July

The next round of the MX-5 Cup championship will be at SMSP on the GP Circuit as part of the Sydney 300 meeting. Entries for the event are submitted via the MRA website here https://motorrace.com.au/event/2023-round-2/

 

Club Track Day at SMSP South/Amaroo Circuit - Sunday 16th July

Join us for another of our famous track days at Sydney Motorsport Park on the South/Amaroo Circuit. This is Round 4 of the 2023 Club Championship of the Mazda MX-5 Club of NSW. Entries are now open.

 

NSW Supersprint at SMSP North/Druitt Circuit – Sunday 27th August

The next round of the NSW Supersprint Championship will be run by NSWRRC on Sunday 27th August using the SMSP North/Druitt Circuit.

Entries are expected to open on the 3rd July.

NSW Supersprint at Pheasant Wood – Sunday 18th June

The MX-5 Club ran another successful NSW Supersprint round, as we have done for many years, but at the Pheasant Wood Circuit instead of the usual venue of Wakefield Park due to its hiatus.

It was mostly clear but very cold day, with the temperature hitting a max of 10°C and strong winds contributing to the icy wind chill. I specifically want to thank the following club members who were flag marshals and/or scrutineers in the difficult conditions: Alex Shedden, Blake Roy, Bryan Shedden, Graham Tierney, Greg Unger, Ian Spinks, Lou Iezzi, Michael Tarrant, Phil Donnelly and Steve Fisher. We also had Joe Kovacic and Gaynor Lawler managing the grid and Gerry Martin as the primary scrutineer. Thank you to all of you for making the event possible.

This was the first time a NSW Supersprint has been run at Pheasant Wood Circuit, and I want to congratulate everyone involved for making it a successful event, specially our regular admin Barry Luttrell.

Meanwhile on the track we had 7 club members driving, with most of them winning their class, and with Jie Ren also winning type RM.

Club Track Day at Pheasant Wood – Monday 19th June

As part of our annual double-header weekend, the 3rd round of the club track day championship was run at Pheasant Wood Circuit on Monday 19th June.

The number of entered drivers was relatively small and with a few last minute withdrawals we had 27 drivers on the day. In part as a result there were lots of laps on offer with Mal Smith clocking up the most with 69 laps.

The day was incident free and finished slightly early. I reckon there were a few tired but happy drivers heading home.

The standout result was Jie Ren driving his MX-5 ND in the standard class with a benchmark result of 102.22%.
