MX-5 Cup Round 1 Report

We got up to 16 entries then one had to withdraw as his roll cage was not ready in time.

Then we lost another 2 on Friday night with engine failure.

13 MX-5s went out to qualify but only 12 came back.

 

For this round we ssing the class divisions of:

* Open Class 1:13 minus,

* Class A 1:13.01 to 1:15,

* Class B 1:15.01 to 1:18,

* Class C 1:18.01 and over.

We had 3 in Open Forced Induction, 2 in Open Naturally Aspirated, 3 in class A and 4 in class B.

Outright placings:

First and fastest on the day was 2020 Champion Tim Herring who was first over the line in all 3 races for a outright win as well as winning the Open Forced Induction Class and achieving the maximum 24 point towards his pointscore.

Second place on the day went to Jamie Martin who had 3 class wins in Class, also scoring 24 points.

Third place on the day went to Jaxon Fraser who had 3 class wins in Class B, also scoring 24 points.

Class Results:

Open FI: First was Tim Herring with 3 wins. Second was Rob Kriletich with a DNF, a third and a second. Third was Sarah Medley with a second and 2 DNFs

Open NA: First was Jett Herring with 2 wins and a second. Second was Jacob Giovenco with 2 seconds and a win.

Class A: First was Jamie Martin with 3 wins. Second was newcomer to the Cup, Sam Hou with 2 thirds and a second. Third was Ben Cathcart with a DNF and 2 seconds.

Class B: First was Jaxon Fraser with 3 wins. Second was Paul Nudd with 2 seconds and a third. Third was another newcomer to the Cup, Seth Gilmore with 2 thirds and a second. Fourth was another newcomer to the Cup Manarth Prasad with 3 fourth places.

 

There was fabulous close racing through the field through the day.

 

The event MX-5 Cup event is Round 2 at SMSP on Saturday 18th May. That will be a day/night meeting on the GP/Gardner circuit in conjunction with the Sydney 300.
