Nulon Nationals

05 March 2014 / Keith Monaghan

Announcing a new form of club racing. The Nulon Nationals series puts car against car, club against club, and owner against owner in a three round competition.

Each owner collects points for their club in a range of disciplines including a 1200m hillclimb, 500m-600m high speed airport run (trap speed is king), and a full track day held at Wakefield Park Raceway. Winners of each round will receive product and cash as well as points towards their club. After three rounds, the 2014 Nulon Nationals winning club will receive a huge amount of prizing including $10,000 in product support from Nulon Oils which is available to each and every club member, as well as a cash donation to the club to support their local events.

This event is being put together by the motorsport team at Nulon and is designed to give something back to the clubs. It is designed to get clubs across the eastern seaboard together to share their love for motorsport. The MX-5 Club of NSW has made the final shortlist and it is now time to start building a team that we believe will be competitive in all three events.

Rules:

The rules are still being finalised at this stage. The condition of entry at this stage is that each car must pass a CAMS accredited scrutineer at each round. If the car is deemed to be unsafe at any point during the competition we have the right to pull the car from the event.

3 out of the 5 cars must back up to the next round at each stage in the series. This means that by the time you get to the track day you might only have 1 car that did the hillclimb. This rule has been set to help clubs field a full grid of cars at each round. It also means we will see some very quick drag cars take on the airport challenge.

Dates:

At this stage the dates are being finalised and will have more information to follow, but this is what we can confirm.

  • Bulahdelah Hillclimb (round 1) will be held on the weekend of the 5-6 April 2014
  • Wakefield Park Trackday (round 2) will be held on Friday 4 July 2014
  • Cootamundra airport (round 3) will be held on Saturday 20 September 2014

Club requirements: Nulon will be covering all costs to run this event. Each club must supply two volunteers for 1 hour each to help with the hillclimb and airport setup. This will be as simple as cooking the BBQ for lunch or keeping the pits clear of traffic.
