Port Macquarie Mazda Go Kart Challenge

12 August 2015 / Words and images - Peter Rodgers

This was the second year of our go kart challenge, but unfortunately Keiran Rodgers our winner from last year was unable to attend to defend his trophy. Nevertheless we had six drivers, including Barry from the Hunter Chapter and his grandson James all ready to do battle.

Mark Wilson the Port Macquarie Mazda Dealer Principal distracted us all by arriving in a hot off the boat Soul Red ND GT, which looks even better in the flesh (metal) than in the pictures.  We all had an opportunity to sit in the car and drool but unfortunately not to drive as Mark had yet to arrange insurance.

So we had to drive the go karts instead.  We ran two heats to find the fastest times for the finals, with James, Peter McDonnell and Kevin contesting the finals.

Even though our Mid North Coasters made a valiant effort, youth prevailed and James is the champion for 2015, with Kevin the runner up.  Next year, teenagers get to drive pedal cars!

After presentations by Mark and thanks all round, we made our way to the Rivermark Cafe for a long and enjoyable lunch.
