Sunday 30 August 2020

It was the 30th August and although not quite Spring, at 18 degrees and a bright sunny day it certainly felt like Spring had arrived early in the ACT. The best weather for having the top down on your convertible.

At the respectful time of 10 am our run started with 6 cars and 11 members. Starting just inside the ACT border the idea of this run was not to stop anywhere in NSW to avoid any possible contact with Covid-19. We proceeded through Sutton and onto Gundaroo. Just before reaching Gunning we turned onto the Hume Highway and proceeded along the straight and boring Hume Highway until the Yass Valley Road exit. This road took us into Yass where we turned and headed west towards Wee Jasper.

It was comforting to see all the countryside green again and the Murrumbidgee River running strongly.

Mountain Creek road lived up to its reputation of being narrow, lots of 55 km and unmarked corners, undulating and a reasonably good surface. The most enjoyable part of the drive.

Our destination was back in the ACT at Uriarra Crossing East for a picnic lunch. The weather was still perfect and with luck on our side we secured a table on the banks of the Murrumbidgee and with good company proceed to have a leisurely lunch.
