STOP PRESS!

The number of modifications allowed for Super Clubman class over Clubman class has been increased from 2 to 3.

The 2017/2018 Competition year is about to kick off with the 20 August club track day. This will be the second track day of 2017 to feature MX-5 Cup races.

Since we are about to open enries for this track day, any changes to the class structure need to be decided before then. After reviewing results over the last year, especially the number of entries received for the various classes, we have identified a need for some changes.

We are introducing a new Super Clubman class, which will replace the old class 5 (NA6 <85rwkW), which has had very few entrants in recent years, and provide an alternative for those currently in the over-subscribed class 6.

Super Clubman is like Clubman (class 4), but with an extra three modifications permitted - e.g. NB goes from 2 to 5 modifications from the approved list. Other restrictions, such as the need to run road tyres still apply. R-spec tyres are not permitted in Clubman or Super Clubman.

Competitors in class 6 and Clubman (class 4) may elect to move to the new class 5, if the level of modification better suits their cars. Our aim is to achieve a more even level of competition and entry numbers in classes 5 and 6.

There are also some small changes to class 6. The power limit is increased to 100rwkW, to better differentiate class 6 from the new class 5 and the existing class 9. Additionally, modified NA6s using R-spec tyres will now run in class 6. There are no other changes to class 6. Bear in mind however that class 6 cars still need to be legitimate road registered cars that are usable as a daily driver. The Competition Secretary reserves the right to move entrants to class 9, if he believes the car is not in the spirit of a road car.

There are no other changes to the classes - after a thorough review, none are needed.

The new class structure is published here and will be reflected in the Supp Regs for 20 August, which will be published later this week.
