A Christmas Mystery 2022
Bookings are closed!
The Idea
This is an overnight Mystery Run that will lead us to luxury accommodation and a scrumptious meal after a challenging drive, testing our ability to solve puzzles and riddles and find the mystery oasis. There will, of course be prizes on offer to those that successfully complete this mystery run!!
This run will challenge your cryptic clue abilities, cartographic navigation skills, digital photographic aptitudes and eagle eye abilities. It will liberate you from the bonds of a normal convoy run, allowing freedom to decide the best route and let the wind blow through your hair, or around your ears, for the follicly challenged!
MX-5 Club members who participate, will be anointed ‘Santa’s Elves’ for the weekend and, just prior to departure from our meeting point, will be issued with a set of clues pointing them to various locations where evaluations of each site will be necessary to gather and record information vital to Santa’s preparation for December 25th.
In order to participate on this day you will need to demonstrate:
- Organisational skills that ensure a Christmas type hat or two is available in the car. These may be worn at various appropriate destinations along the mystery route. More Christmas clothing or car decoration is encouraged.
- Ability to take digital photos – (and later show the evidence at final debriefing.) A phone will do or a digital camera.
- Ability to use your car’s navigation system, or google maps on your phone or read a map.
- Acute observation and recording skills.
- Ability to encourage in-car harmony.
You will be asked to travel to identify and record information from five different destinations and report your findings the sixth and final meeting spot – the mystery hotel, where your findings and gathered information will be analysed by organisers and a score allocated to assess your worthiness to be an Elf and earn prizes.
Cost – approximately $300 will include: ($100 deposit upon registering and pay residual at the hotel on the day.)
- Accommodation for two Saturday night.
- A scrumptious dinner for two.
- Prize giving.
- A La Carte Breakfast for two Sunday morning
The Plan
There will be two departure points, one for Illawarra (Haywards Bay) and one for Sydney (McDonalds Heathcote) and each group will finally meet at our secret Christmas in July destination after deciphering the fiendish clues and completing some set tasks along the way.
Participants will gather at designated meeting points
Each car will be given a set of printed cryptic clues that indicate a secret destination.
Car occupants must decipher the clue, decide on the best route to this destination and proceed there. Then decipher the next destination from clues and proceed.
Rescue plans for lost Elves will be included.
Before departure odometers MUST be zeroed. At the final destination these readouts will be collected and collated. Distance travelled is the key, not speed.
Cars will depart at 2 to 3 minute intervals.
At each destination participants will be required to complete some / all of the following:
- take a photo ( artistry or hilarity will be considered when viewed by prize panel.)
- collect information
- find an object
