AHOC BRASS MONKEY RUN 2014

WHAT IS THE BRASS MONKEY ALL ABOUT?

The Brass Monkey is an open invitation charity event organised by the Austin Healy Owners Club and the premier roadster run from Sydney. The Brass Monkey should be on all MX-5ers bucket list if they love the adventure of a great drive in an MX-5. The Brass Monkey Run is not an official event of the MX-5 Club of NSW. AHOC is a CAMS affiliated car club and the MX-5 BreakFast Club is the authorised reseller of tickets to the MX-5 community.

WHY GET OUT OF BED FOR A DAWN BUSTER RUN?

If you have never been part of a Brass Monkey then do not be discouraged by a dawn buster run over the Blue Mountains and up the Castlereagh Highway to Mudgee because you think it is too early, dark and cold. The AHOC Brass Monkey is an adventure and not to be missed event. Appropriately dressed in your MX-5 with the roof down, windows up and heater on, a Surfers Paradise Meter Maid would not need defrosting for breakfast if you were so lucky as to have a Meter Maid riding shotgun.

WHAT IS THE ROUTE?

The route to Mudgee has one right turn between Eastern Creek and Mudgee, a turn off the Great Western Highway onto the Castlereagh Highway just past Lithgow. The Brass Monkey starts running under the stars at 6:00am and waits for nobody. You should be ready to go from the Eastern Creek Service Centre Truck Rest Area by at 5:30am for a 6:00am start. If you miss the start you will have to catch up on the road or at the destination venue to meet up for breakfast at the Mudgee Soldiers Club.

WHAT ARE THE RULES?

The Brass Monkey is a waypoint run not a race that has no Run Leader, Run Sheet, Route Map, Code of Conduct, Incident Sheet or rules outside those enforced by the boys in blue. It is most important to remember that you drive at a pace at which you feel most comfortable with your top down unless you drive a car with a tin lid. With the greatest respect to old English sports cars, they fall well short of the performance of an NA6. If you like a relaxed stress free drive down the highway then what better way to do that than to cruise in a bunch with Healeys, MGs and classic cars over country roads on a Sunday morning.

WHY POST THE AHOC BRASS MONKEY RUN ON OUR EVENT CALENDAR?

This is a CAMS sanctioned social event and the biggest roadster run of the year. Every year the AHOC invites all the members of the MX-5 Club of NSW to join in the fun whether they prefer BreakFast Club, Cruiser or Midweek style runs. In the past 8 years the participation of MX-5s has grown from 3 in 2005 to becoming the most numerous marque on the Brass Monkey. Although not a race, the MX-5 Club members have been first to park at the brekkie venue for the past 6 years and for most of those years being the majority if not all the top ten finishers. The Brass Monkey is suitable and recommended to all MX-5 Club members who have a passion for a classic event, a great drive in good company and willingness to accept getting up for a very early start on a crisp winters morning on country roads.

PLEASE NOTE THE BRASS MONKEY IS A FUN RUN NOT A RACE

NOBODY IS EXPECTED OR ASKED TO DRIVE ABOVE THEIR COMFORT LEVELS

WHAT DOES IT COST?

A ticket costs $17 with all the profits going to charity. The ticket price includes a buffet breakfast with up to 200 other participants - in 2011 there were 197 attendees to Mudgee. You must produce your ticket on entering the breakfast venue to the AHOC door officials.

PAYMENT

AHOC does not accept or process any EFT or Credit Card payments. Payment of $17 for each ticket is by CASH ($20 would be appreciated as no change will be given with the extra $3 being a donation to charity). Or if you are a financial member of the MX-5 Club of NSW then you may pay by CHEQUE drawn in favour of "Austin Healey Owners Club" recording your name and membership number on the reverse side of your cheque.

REGISTRATION

The BreakFast Club has been allocated 50 tickets for the MX-5 community for either sale or return to AHOC on 30 June 2014. Each year the 200 plus tickets are sold with all unsold MX-5 tickets reallocated by the AHOC to people on their waiting list or for their late entries.
