Cruise & Picnic at Mayfield Gardens Oberon
Our thoughts have been with our RPM community and their families during the terrible fires throughout the last week in the mountains and Lithgow areas. Thankfully, it appears that you are all safe. Our best wishes and thanks goes to all those with the unenviable task of ongoing management of the fires in the coming days.
This Sunday is the RPM run to Mayfield Gardens at Oberon. Mayfield Garden is one of the largest privately owned cool climate gardens in the world nestled within a 5000 acre working farm near Oberon. Comprising of a maze, an oak forest, a walled potager, an 80 metre cascade that tumbles down the hillside, extensive parterre gardens and a six acre water garden ... you really have to see it to believe it.
At this time, there are no road closures on the roads that the run will be following and there is no impact to the gardens from the current fires. However, there were temporary road closures off Victoria Pass and the Gt Western Highway between Blackheath and Mt Victoria last weekend so we will be reassessing the situation closer to Sunday. Further, there may be ongoing closures on Hawkesbury Road, Bells Line of Road and the Darling Causeway. Any members who may normally travel these roads to join the run are advised to assess any ongoing closures prior to Sunday. In the unfortunate circumstance that the situation worsens and there may be road closures, particularly on the pass, the run will be cancelled as the only alternative route will be via Goulburn which is too lengthy for this particular run given the time required to see the gardens.
Below is the information required for this run. If you are coming on the run, I would appreciate it if you could drop me a quick email with your mobile phone number, stating where you will be joining the run so that I can estimate numbers.
I have been advised that Mayfield Garden DO NOT allow food to be brought into the gardens. Food & drink will be sold by Rotary and others at the site. Consequently, contrary to any past correspondence, picnic lunches will not be permitted in the grounds. Our morning stop at Hartley Courthouse will still be BYO.
