Lake Burley Griffin Cruise
We will depart the meeting point to head off up Cambewarra Mountain, and through Fitzroy Falls to the morning coffee stop at Farm Club Australia, (1, Werai road, Werai.
From there we will route via Bundanoon, Marulan, and Bungonia to join the highway at Goulburn for the final run into Canberra.
Lunch will be at Contentious Character Winery (www.contentiouscharacter.com.au), in the Dairy Road precinct at Fyshwick. This can be wine tasting, tasting with paired light bites, or a full lunch, depending on your needs.
Post lunch we will take the short drive to our accommodation, The Knightsbridge Apartments, 3 Leichhardt Street, Kingston. 6 Rooms have been reserved at $193 for a queen room, with upgrades available. The complex has secure underground parking. Contact the Knightsbridge direct on (02) 6185 0000 to reserve your room, saying it is one of the rooms booked under Roger Brook.
Dinner has been reserved in Maddies restaurant for 5:30 at the Kingston Hotel, a short 5min / 350m walk from the accommodation.
Post dinner we will make our way to Kingston Foreshore for the boat trip to view the fireworks from ‘up close’! The embarkation point is a 15min / 1.1km walk from the dinner location, back past the accommodation. Parking can be difficult at the foreshore, so those who do not want to walk off dinner can get an Uber.
Details for the boat trip are yet to be confirmed. Expect to depart about 8pm. There will be a cash bar onboard, and ticket price is yet TBC
It is expected to return to the Foreshore by about 10pm, when you can make your way back to the accommodation, a 12min / 850m walk away.
Sunday 16 March.
For the early risers, an experience not to be missed is to go one of the many viewpoints around lake Burley Griffin, and view the mass of Hot Air balloons (approx. 40) as they take off at sunrise, about 6am!
Breakfast can be at one of the many cafes in Old Kingston or Manuka, before departing the accommodation about 10am to drive the Cotter Loop, and real drivers loop to the South and West of the city.
We will lunch in Bungendore at the Royal Hotel, before you can make your way back to the South Coast via your preferred route, either Tarago / Nerriga, or Braidwood / Kings highway.
