Wear A Silly Hat to Brunch Run
NEW BRUNCH VENUE - NERRIGA PUB
A crazy hat does not make for a silly man but a good road makes for great run and our planned route is truly up there. It does not matter what headwear you wear the fully sealed Braidwood Road to Oallens Road is no joke, it is about as good as it gets in places when sitting down behind the wheel of your five. The run up the escarpment is worth the drive down the coast at whatever pace your prefer and this waypoint run gives you the opportunity to drive this spectacular route in a manner most suited to you with likeminded members from Canberra, Illawarra and Sydney.
In 2015 the road between Nowra to Nerriga and beyond was fully sealed and the Illawarra Chapter took the first Club Run up this road last year. The road runs through Yerriyong State Forest and up the eastern escarpment of the Great Dividing Range to cross over into the northern regions of the Monaro District south of Goulburn. The direct road between Nerriga and Braidwood is rather ordinary and not suited to MX5 and since posting the event Braidwood has been replaced as our brunch venue.
With the return to work by the licensees after a vacation the Nerriga Pub has now agreed to host brunch at around 10.30am. With Nerriga as our destination venue over an hour has been cut off the run to brunch. To take advantage of the time savings the run will go through Nerriga to the corner of Charlies Forest Road that is just before the end of the new road works and 15km from the pub to turn aroundand head back for brunch. The link to the Nerriga Hotel is http://www.nerrigahotel.com/
The Sydney members will start from Heathcote at 7:00am and head south down the M1 to meet members from the Illawarra Chapter who missed out on the run last year or want to revisit their 2015 experience. Together with adventurous members from the Illawarra Chapter the run will depart from Hungry Jacks Haywards Bay at 8:00am for the BTU Road to drive around Albatross RAN Base past Nowra to head up Braidwood Road a distance of around 70km to meet up with Wayne & Sue Hunt joining the run from Jervis Bay by 9.00am. The run up to Nerriga from the Princes Highway at around 9.00am is about 65km and should take about 50 minutes to complete plus another 20 minutes for the run to the end of the sealed road and back for brunch by about 10.10am.
The BreakFast Club Monaro Division will head off from McDonalds Epic at Mitchell at 8:30am and meet up with their northern neighbours at the Nerriga Pub. The run from Canberra via Tarago , Windellama and the Oallens Road is about 120km and should see cars arriving at the pub at around 10.15am.
After brunch there is the option of driving up Ollens Road to Windellama for a run up to the Hume Highway at Marulan through Bungonia. From Marulan ACT members can head back to Canberra, the Sydney members can drive home on the Hume Highway or come back with members of the Illawarra Chapter through the Southern Highlands then down to the coast for the run up to Sydney.
