A Long Way for Fish & Chips

This was our third Fish & Chip run. It was a sunny and warm 15 degrees. Great driving weather, with no rain, although the wind on the coast was a bit chilly.
We met again at Bungendore with seven cars and 14 members departing at 10:15am for a run down the mountain to Burrill Lake.
The Kings Highway is getting safer each time I visit it. No road works this time, mainly due to it being a Sunday.
Two more members joined us at Braidwood and another two at Nelligan (there is a debate over the spelling of Nelligan/Nelligen).
The eight cars driving down the Clyde from Braidwood had an amazing run. We did not encounter one car, truck or caravan for the entire trip. I would have travelled this road at last 50 times, and I have never had a ‘perfect run’ like this one was.
The colour mix of the cars was unusual - usually the vast majority are red, but this time there were only a few red and a white one, blue, two silver and yellow cars.
As it was just over a two-hour run and we did not intend to stop, so I had planned to complete the run right next to the toilet block at the Lions Park next to the lake. I say no more.
We were joined at Burrill lake by several members from the south Coast and Illawarra Chapters - lovely to see them join in. Anda had managed to secure four large tables undercover and so we headed off to the fish shop. Some members headed to the nearby takeaway and others brought their own lunch.
The food and park facilities were excellent. There are several covered tables with bench seating scattered around the park. We occupied half a large, covered area near the parked cars. It could easily accommodate 40 people.
Home-made desserts (cakes, slices etc) were supplied by several members and all were delicious. Thank you. We brought lamingtons again, but they were not needed. I’m sure they will come in handy for me later.
The run home back up the mountain was not organised as a convoy run, so some left early and most had left by about 3:30pm. We encountered heavy traffic on the way up the mountain, but that was to be expected on a Sunday afternoon
It turned out to be an excellent day with fine weather and finer friends.
Steve & Cecelia.
