An Antarctic Adventure

The day had arrived, as 8 intrepid explorers ventured to and survived the Antarctic!
Meeting at a regular meeting spot, at the Big Red Bus in Tomerong were Geoff, Roger, Bob & Karen, Keith & Sue, Brian & Anda.
Brian & Anda led a short drive via the "scenic route", unfortunately behind a slow KIA through the bends (our CX5 even complained!) to Jervis Bay Maritime Museum.
There's a lot to see at the museum. The grounds are picturesque, dotted with old vessels, with a duck pond and old relocated school buildings surrounding the main museum building. The mangrove boardwalk is also worth a visit. Inside the museum is an interesting historical display, the Lady Denman ferry and this month's attraction - the Antarctic exhibition depicting Antarctic explorations in the early 1900's by Scott, Mawson and Shackleton.
The main attraction was a Virtual Reality film, "Thin Ice", showing Shackleton and crew's treacherous expedition, where the Endurance slipped below the ice. We all agreed, it was an amazing feat, where all 28 men survived what could have been a catastrophic outcome.
Exhausted from our VR adventure, we proceeded to lunch at a "hidden gem", a newly opened Cafe in Woollamia, Bay and Bush cafe. The cafe is part of a wellness resort - Sue commented that I had tricked everyone, bringing them to eat healthy food! Nevertheless, the girls did enjoy their interesting spritzes.
At lunch, Roger told us about and showed us his photos of his journey to Georgia Island and its abandoned whaling station in 1979. Coincidentally, his ship was also named the Endurance.
An educational, and also fun day out with our MX5 friends.
