February Mystery Run

11 February 2026 / Peter Wilson

There seems to be a little more acceptance of the Mystery Run as eleven members and one visitor were prepared to risk it with a drive to a mystery destination.  Not much of a mystery, we have driven to this destination less than two years ago in May 2024.

The usual starting point, Daughters at Hall, for an excellent brew before our scheduled departure at 10:00am.  In attendance were seven cars, with six in various shades of red and a “Bluey”.  The drive to Young was uneventful apart for the delay with roadworks on Burley Griffin Way as we waited and waited for the pilot car to lead us through a single lane whilst the road is being widened.

The usual good meal at the Services Club in Young with members suggesting we could come back again.  After lunch, “Bluey” made an early departure for home and the rest made their way to Boorowa via Murringo.  Another good coffee was served at the Marsden Street Café in Boorowa.  During coffee, we noticed the blue sky was becoming rather dark and we decided to head for home.  Maybe we should have rested in Boorowa a little longer!  Just as we departed the 50kph zone the wind and rain hit us with a vengeance.  For the next ten minutes or so, we travelled at speeds between 60 to 80kph and hoping for the best.  Thankfully there was no hail.  The rain and wind subsided and we hit a little more rain near Murrumbateman.

Generally, it was a good day to be out driving the MX5.  I arrived home at 3.30pm with 290kms being the return trip to Hall.  Thanks to all on the run today.
