Morpeth to Gundy by Dennis Henderson
Oh, we all had such a great day on Sunday
On the road from Morpeth common to Gundy.
12 MX-5s with 22 members took off in line without a fuss
On that sweltering day of 37 Celsius.
Tops down and sun blazing
Through winding country roads which were amazing.
Green hills and valleys far and wide
No sunburnt country on either side.
A wee stop at Singleton Heights which many were keen to seize
But, oh no, there was no water to the amenities.
Debbie donned her Sherlock Holmes hat,
Found the faucet, turned it on and that was that.
On through mining country and the GPS decided to take us all a new way
Chris said let's be adventurous, we said ok!
Off to Castle Rock via a road that became a lane,
Then grass grew through the asphalt becoming slightly insane.
Deliverance tunes were playing across the air waves
As the few local residents looked at us all with dismay.
When the signs started stating proceed at your own peril
A mass U-turn was in order as things were turning feral.
Back through the mines to Aberdeen
And then through beautiful horse country - what a magnificent scene.
Finally at Gundy we came to rest
At the Linga Longa Inn where lunch was the best.
A giant thank you to Christine and John from one and all,
For another awesome run - we had a ball!
