HARS Run and lunch
15 October, 2024
Tuesday morning arrived grey and overcast from overnight rain and we wondered what the day would bring as donned our club regalia for the trip to the HARS museum at Albion Park.
Sue and I were to meet up with the other 8 intrepid travellers, Bob, Linda, Rose, Geoff, Ian, Paul, Brian & Anda, at the Hungry Jack’s car park in Bomaderry.
Due to the weather conditions the roof of the mighty MX-5 was left up.
From Bomaderry we took a leisurely drive up the highway and on arriving at HARS we took some refreshment and readied for the tour.
Peter our tour guide took us through hanger 1, which had some interesting displays including a PYB6 Catalina, Lockheed SP-2H Neptune and a Convair 440 in TAA livery just to name some of the many displays.
The women of the group stopped for a photo opportunity on the steps leading to the Convair waving to crowd below.
The next stop was the outside displays where we toured the Boeing 747 and the Lockheed Super Constellation. It was surprising to see how far passenger plans had advanced in the approx. 40 years between these 2 in both passenger accommodation and flight systems.
We also looked at some of the other static displays on the tarmac which included a Canberra bomber. What surprised me was how small this bomber is.
We had to cut our visit short as we had a lunch date with Pam and Jeff at the Gerroa Boat Fisherman’s club.
A great lunch was had by all and after some lively conversation on various topics we went our separate ways home.
I would like to thank Bob and Linda for organising a great and interesting event.
