On Thursday 29th of May, six cars met at MacDonald's Figtree. After several days of wind and rain we had a dry day, albeit rather cold! Yeah! We were able to put our tops down!!!
The trip was originally to visit the museum in Camden, however, we found out that the museum was temporarily closed because of problems with their lift. It didn't daunt us as we had a Plan B.
We set off through Figtree and took a scenic drive through Mount Keira.
Luckily there were no branches on the road from the high winds of the previous day so the MX5's with tops down had an enjoyable run through the bush.
We went a short distance along Picton Rd. Then drove through Douglas Park, crossing over Douglas Park Weir and the Nepean River. This is where some people had an unplanned shower with the droplets of rain water still falling down the mountain.
We made our way to Camden Town centre, where some people left to go straight to Camden Valley Inn.
Our Plan B was a guided tour of Camden Town Farm. Before that began, we descended on the cafe opposite the farm for a warming coffee and muffins.
The Camden Town Farm is a well known feature of the Camden community. It was a dairy farm dating back to the 19th century later bequeathed to the Camden community by Miss Luella Davies with the stipulation that it be kept In the community. Thus the Camden community garden was born. We went on a guided walk learning a little bit of the history and seeing the old milk in sheds and the thriving community garden.
From there we went to the Camden Valley Inn and met up with three couples. We were later joined by Senia and the organising committee from Sydney for the 35th MX5 anniversary event.
Camden Valley Inn is a wonderful venue! They had a fire going and the best part was that lunch was 2 for the price of 1! (that's if you're a senior!!!) We will have a similar trip at a later date when the Camden Museum is open.
