An adventure to the Dunes

After three days of relentless rain, grey skies and less-than-inspiring weather, Sunday finally delivered the sort of day every MX-5 enthusiast hopes for. Brilliant sunshine, crystal blue skies and dry roads greeted the Hunter Chapter as nine eager cars assembled at Cameron Park, ready for what would become a memorable run.

Our convoy consisted of an excellent mix of Mazda's iconic roadster: two NDs, six NCs, one RF, Some members we haven't seen for a while and one visitor with Brian Thompson joining us as a passenger on this run, good to see you Brian.

Leaving Cameron Park, we headed towards Raymond Terrace before making our way to the peaceful surrounds of Seaham Park. The park proved to be the perfect location for our morning tea stop, where members enjoyed coffee, homemade treats and, as always, plenty of conversation. After the weather we'd all endured during the previous few days, everyone was appreciating the chance to be outdoors with the tops down and the sun on their backs.

From Seaham, the run continued along East Seaham Road. Members were pleasantly surprised to find that the road had only just been sealed. The fresh bitumen, gentle bends and picturesque rural scenery made it a highlight of the day's drive, offering smooth motoring through the beautiful countryside.

The route then took us along Limeburner’s Creek Road towards Medowie, where the roads continued to provide an enjoyable mix of sweeping corners and relaxing country driving.

Our destination was The Dunes Golf Club, where a well-earned lunch awaited. Over a delicious meal, the conversation flowed as freely as ever, with stories of past runs, future adventures and plenty of good-natured banter shared around the table.

Sometimes the best club runs aren't about covering huge distances or tackling mountain passes. They're about spending time with good friends, enjoying some excellent roads, and making the most of a beautiful day behind the wheel of an MX-5. After the weather we'd experienced earlier in the week, this run reminded us just how rewarding those perfect driving days can be.

A big thank you to everyone who joined the run and helped make it such an enjoyable outing. We look forward to seeing you all on the next Hunter Chapter adventure.
