Show and Shine in the Hunter Chapter is gaining momentum as members get the clean and polish “bug” and has grown from a normal monthly run with a quick line up and assessment during lunch to some seriously prepared cars being properly judged and points allocated. This year’s competition was held on Sunday 22nd of November.
The event started at the usual place - Beresfield BP Hungry Jacks with an hour of “Coffee and Lies”, briefing and then 18 cars headed off to enjoy a 100 kms of Lower Hunter. Cloudy skies meant cool driving through Kurri Kurri, Maitland, Woodville, Clarencetown and then along the Williams River to Raymond Terrace.
We parked among the historic shop fronts and walked to the Junction Inn to have a nice pub lunch looking over the Hunter River. It was a short 5 kms drive to Finnan Park on the bank of Grahamstown Dam where we had a nice grass area to line up, sort of, in model order for the Judging.
Bob Pimm judged the only NA and went on to help Rachel Crawford Judge the NBs and Peter Hilkmann and I judged the NCs and the sole ND. The quality of car preparation was exceptional for a majority of the cars. And a lot of the members could be seen doing their own judging for the peoples choice award.
After the judging we headed off through Medowie and past the Williamtown RAAF Base to Stockton on the Newcastle Harbour for afternoon tea and presentation of prizes. The winners were:
NA – Phil Mayo
NB – Helen Green
NC – Ray Noonan
NB – David Gazzard
People’s Choice – Stephen Carter (Kountry Kousin) with a close second – Ray Noonan.
A marvellous MX-5 day and voted the “Best Hunter Show and Shine Eva”
