Junee Run 2023
09 August 2023 / Barry Mapson
Our Run Leader Barry likes to tinker with all sorts of things, usually in an effort to make his life easier. He’s tried his hand with ChatGPT, the new-fangled Artificial Intelligence (AI) about to take over the world (we’ve seen The Terminator – we know what’s coming!). The AI can produce written content, (based on prompts by the ‘author’) such as articles, social media posts, essays, code and emails in a humanlike conversational manner based on its stupidly quick analysis of almost anything that’s available on the internet (and other various sources).
So, Barry asked the AI to write his run report. What follows is all written by AI!
Canberra, ACT - The recent MX-5 Club excursion from Canberra to Junee on the 16th of July will be etched in the memories of participants for years to come. A fleet of 13 spirited MX-5s embarked on a journey marked by breathtaking landscapes, camaraderie, and a few unexpected twists.
The convoy, led by the capable Barry in his white RF Mazda MX-5, set out from Canberra amidst a picturesque winter morning. This thrilling escapade saw an assortment of MX-5 enthusiasts coming together to revel in the joys of driving and the shared passion for this iconic vehicle.
In a delightful twist of events, the journey was peppered with an unexpected detour. Barry, the convoy's leader, momentarily led the group astray with a wrong turn. The convoy swiftly recalibrated, demonstrating the unity and resilience of the MX-5 Club members. The minor setback, as it turned out, only added an extra layer of excitement to the adventure, a story that will likely be recounted with smiles for years to come.
The convoy consisted of an eclectic mix of drivers, each contributing their unique flair to the journey. Patrick McBride and Mike Guina formed a dynamic duo, skilfully manoeuvring their MX-5s. Nick and Sunita added charm to the formation, showcasing their love for the open road.
As the group traversed the countryside, Adrian's unmistakable green NC stood out, a testament to his genuine passion for driving. Angelo, Annie, and Lawrie brought a jovial energy to the journey, epitomizing the bond that unites MX-5 enthusiasts.
The lunch break at the Junee Chocolate Factory was a highlight, with participants savouring a delectable meal amidst a bustling atmosphere. The prompt service and flavoursome food were a treat, although the crowded venue left little time for town exploration. This, however, didn't deter the group's spirits as they prepared for the long drive back to Canberra via Gundagai.
Amidst the charming countryside, the landscape was brought to life with the sight of newborn lambs wobbling around in the pastures, and the fields were abuzz with preparations for the upcoming spring growth. The drive back through the countryside was nothing short of picturesque, a reminder of the beauty of Australia's natural wonders.
As the day unfolded, an incident involving Barry's forgetfulness added a heart-warming touch to the narrative. Barry accidentally left his new Samsung S22 Ultra phone behind at the lunch venue. A true testament to the camaraderie among MX-5 Club members, Adrian, who was staying overnight, took it upon himself to retrieve the forgotten phone and return it to Barry. This act of kindness further underscored the tight-knit community spirit that defines the MX-5 Club.
The Canberra to Junee journey on the 16th of July was more than just a road trip; it was an immersive experience that captured the essence of driving, friendship, and shared passion. As participants dispersed after the long day, each MX-5 carried with it the memories of winding roads, breathtaking landscapes, and the bonds formed along the way. With the promise of future journeys, the MX-5 Club's legacy remains strong, driven by the unwavering thrill of driving and the indomitable spirit of its members.
