Kangaroo Valley Run

On Tuesday 26 March, after meeting up at 9am at United Petroleum at Tomerong, welcoming new members Vaidehi and John, fifteen of us, with tops down to enjoy the blue skies, headed off in convoy on our Kangaroo Valley “Not So Mystery Run”.

After highway motoring through Nowra, we turned off onto Moss Vale Road where we meandered along the twisty, windy road to the tune of lyre birds, bell birds and others, plus the annoying roadworks, to our first stop at the Cambewarra Mountain lookout and cafe for morning tea. Tony from SC and Ron from Illawarra joined us here. We were their first customers of the day and we were all ready for a coffee & cake. Although it was a little misty, the view to the coast was breathtaking.

With thirst and hunger quenched, the convoy travelled along Tourist Rd & Berry Mt Rd, which is always a fun drive, through the township of Kangaroo Valley township and on to Tallowa Dam. This stretch was a testament to the skill of all of our 10 MX5 drivers (and navigators !!!) who dodged all of the potholes, ducks, lyre birds & goanna’s along the way. No mishaps!!

The dam was a first visit for most members. It was amazing, so huge, and even a school group was there exploring the waterway in their kayaks. A couple of members are considering going back with kayaks and tents for an overnight exploration of the river. The dam has a fish lift (who knew !) and it was very interesting to discover how this was used to assist fish with their migration.

Then it was back down the dodgy road, avoiding more wildlife, and on to Kangaroo Valley for a delicious lunch and great company at the Friendly Inn Hotel.

Many thanks to Rose and Geoff for organising such a great run on a beautiful Autumn day.
