Midweek Gerroa Jaunt
18 September 2025 / Mark Garvan
It was a perfect spring morning as our 7 MX-5s left Heathcote and headed south for Gerroa. Being a Wednesday, our run down the Old Princes Highway to Bulli was almost traffic-free and a delightful way to enjoy some top-down motoring.
After a cruise down the motorway (which was also surprisingly enjoyable given the nice weather and light traffic), we picked up a couple of Illawarra locals at Albion Park and headed over to Jamberoo. Progress was a little slow behind a farmer's ute, but the valley looked even greener than usual after the recent rain.
It was a nice run from Jamberoo up Saddleback Mountain to the lookout, where we had a leg-stretch and took in the absolutely spectacular view. Heading down the hill, we missed a turn off, so we enjoyed an unplanned tour of some Kiama backstreets. But Google Maps soon got us back on track and heading around the Kiama bends on our way through Gerringong and onto lunch at the Gerroa Fisherman's Club. A few more Illawarra members met us there to enjoy a nice meal overlooking Seven Mile Beach. All up, a very pleasant day with great weather, nice scenery and good company.
