Mystery Run - 11 August 2026

The destination this month was Corrigans Beach, Batehaven.

The departure point was the Little Sutton Bakehouse where the sky was overcast. The last couple of days in Canberra seemed like the coldest this winter with temperatures around 8 or 9 degrees. This ambient temperature was lowered by those winds coming over the Brindabellas that brought a chill factor. Hence, there was some relief today with a drive to the coast to seek warmer weather where the forecast was sunny and 20 degrees.

The drive along the Kings Highway is usually delayed with roadworks and it didn’t disappoint this time. However, the roadworks involved work adjacent to the road and it was just a time delay; no wet gravel, etc. The traffic was light and it was an excellent drive apart from that BMW driver who limited the speed to 40kph on the steepest part of the Clyde.

The picnic tables at Corrigans Beach were vacant and most enjoyed fish and chips from Ocean Breeze takeaway on Beach Road.

After lunch and a short walk to the beach under a sunny blue sky, it was time to return home, with the top down, via Clyde Mountain. On the top of the mountain, the cool weather hit us again and as we reached Braidwood it was time to close the roof. Coffee and cake at Troopers Rest in Braidwood was a good finish to the day.

Thanks to all on the run, a very enjoyable day in warm weather! It was 268kms return to the Little Sutton Bakehouse.
