The run this month headed to Cootamundra and lunch at The Services Club.

There was some wet weather last night and I had 12mm in the rain gauge this morning; however it cleared for a dry, overcast and cooler day. Once again, in attendance, we had six members in four cars. Our departure was a little earlier this month, 9:30am, in order to have a morning coffee en route to Cootamundra. The only problem with the earlier start; it coincides with the commencement of the school term. Apparently children don’t ride their bicycles or catch public transport these days. Mum or Dad drives them and causes some traffic queues near schools!

I was hoping for a display of canola, however there wasn’t much around and generally the canola bloomed much earlier this year. There was some canola before the turn-off to Galong; see photo. Not too much traffic on the road and a good drive apart from that cattle truck that had a problem with the built-in effluent collection system. A spray of the windscreen and a doubling of the three second spacing solved the problem. Morning coffee was at Jacksons Bakery in Harden where some were tempted to test some of the sugar laden treats on the menu.

Rob Wilkins usually posts the route on Facebook and you will see the route after Harden involved the back roads through farms, etc. The roads are in relatively good condition and thankfully not many potholes unlike Victorian roads! A local artist had placed a sculpture, on the side of the road, that would compete well with the “Animals on Bikes” on the road between Cumnock and Dubbo.

Over lunch it was decided to skip an afternoon coffee and head directly home via Rosehill Road and the Hume Highway. Although it was generally an overcast day, there were patches of sunshine. I arrived home at 3.15pm with a distance of 296kms being the return trip to Hall; great to be out driving a MX5.

Thanks to all on the run today.
