Mystery Run

19 June 2026 / Story: Kerry Warner; Photos: Keith Monaghan

We met at Hungry Jacks, Bomaderry, the sun shining, the temperature around 15 degres celcius, heated seats on (well in the ND anyway) and we were away. Three cars, a dark green NA with historical plates, a red NC and a white ND RF.

The first part of the mystery was where was Lesley? Well nursing a broken arm and the NDs lovely firm ride, it was decided that it was better to save Lesley for another day. A good Friend, Dick, scored the short term call up and answered the call.

Next was the run up dead-end Broughton Vale Road. The road follows a babbling brook up the valley, over a causeway (water up to the rims!!) and negotiated a few potholes. Back to Berry to get onto the Princess Highway and we headed to Kiama (with a little side trip on the old highway at the Maze, anything to avoid sitting on a highway!)

We took the first exit to Kiama at the end of the Kiama Bends. Then up to Saddleback, a beautiful drive through tree lined laneways, through Jamberoo to Jamberoo Mountain Road. Always an entertaining drive, except when there are road works of course. A coffee stop was on the agenda, and Moonacres Kitchen at Robinson was fit for purpose! Around our coffees and pastries, we sat and listened to Keith tell of his adventures teaching the keen how to go around a racetrack and stay on the track!

On the move again, finally to Burradoo Park Farm. After waiting for a goods train, we were cleared to cross the train tracks and into the car park, which was full! It’s a Wednesday afternoon! Clearly news got around that the MX5 club was coming today.

A walk around the farm and we found the piglets as promised. Only they’ve grown since last seen. We checked out the Three Blue Ducks restaurant opening next week and headed to the Farmhouse for lunch. Hamburgers and Salad were great but the Scotch Eggs with the talk of the table.

With clouds building up in the east, it was time to head home, but we will definitely be back.
