Nowra TAFE Lunch

Destiny’s Restaurant at Nowra TAFE was the perfect choice for a wet Tuesday afternoon. The rain came down steadily, but fortunately the warm atmosphere, excellent food and good company more than compensated for the soggy drive.

Twelve members had originally booked for lunch, although by the time the weather, vehicle dramas and second thoughts were taken into account, only six brave souls actually made the journey. One enthusiastic pair had apparently booked twice, another couple was sidelined by car or caravan troubles, while others wisely, or perhaps cautiously, chose to stay home and avoid the downpour altogether.

Those who attended were rewarded with a superb three-course lunch prepared and served by the TAFE hospitality students. The menu featured alternate drop entrées of creamy Burrata and rich Risotto Milanese, followed by mains of Marinated Pork Loin or Barramundi, both accompanied by seasonal vegetables and generous servings that left few complaints — except perhaps from expanding waistbands.

By the time dessert arrived, several diners declared they simply couldn’t fit in another bite. However, we were reminded that the students needed to practise their “plating skills,” so naturally we rose to the challenge with admirable dedication. Chris bravely flew the flag for the cheese platter, while the rest of the table unanimously surrendered to the lure of the Chocolate Pavé, definitely not pavlova as we were carefully informed, served with raspberry sorbet.

The quality of the food was outstanding and beautifully presented throughout. While the drinks menu was modest, there was still enough variety to keep everyone happy. Half the group opted for the delightfully refreshing Coconut Nojita mocktail, while the remainder enjoyed a selection of beer, wine or water.

The TAFE students did a superb job, providing friendly and professional service. Their enthusiasm and attention to detail were evident all afternoon, and they deserve every compliment.

Destiny’s Restaurant proved to be exceptional value for money and well worth venturing out in the rain for. Judging by the smiles around the table, and the complete lack of leftovers, it is certain to earn a return visit.
