NSW Supersprint Championships - Round 5

The quest for the "Four-peat" continues (unprecedented four consecutive wins for the MX-5 Club in the Club Championship), with Round 5 adding a mighty 9 points (!) to our lead over the Australian Racing Drivers Club – now 63 points, 1907 to 1844. Thanks to the 18 Club members competing we added a total of 416 points to our tally.

A pleasant sunny day at Sydney Motorsport Park's Grand Prix circuit saw five of the Club's drivers take out Class wins – Tony Williams (2A), Scott McGarry (4A), David Johnson (4B), Ralph Thompson (6A), and Matt Tarrant (7A). Icing on the cake was the new records set by Scott and David, breaking their records set at Round 1.

At this stage, with four of the seven rounds completed, in the Type Championship (ie similar vehicles, regardless of engine capacity), David Johnson and Scott McGarry are coming 1st and 3rd in Type 4, Luke Kovacic is running 2nd in Type 2 and Bryan Shedden is 3rd in Type 1. We also have eight drivers leading their respective Classes - Bryan Shedden (1B), Tony Williams (2A), Gus Elias (2B), Luke Kovacic (2C), Scott McGarry (4A), David Johnson (4B), Phil Ashton (6A) and Matt Tarrant (7A).

We are past the halfway mark now, with just three rounds remaining. Next up is Round 5, hosted by NSW Road Racing Club at SMP's South Circuit on 27 August. South Circuit is tight with surprisingly big elevation changes, and while the lap is short, it requires constant concentration. Not a favourite of drivers of bigger cars, hopefully we can get a good boost here. Entries for this round are now open. Entries are also open to non-championship entrants too, so if you have a CAMS L2S licence and would like to have a go at the South Circuit, jump onto CAMS Event Entry and get your entry in.

Following that we have a round at Wakefield Park in September, and the final round back at SMP GP Circuit in October.

Most of the MX-5s were in run group 2, here lining up for their second session. Almost all of the MX-5s are Club members.
