Ranger’s Twisters 2024 - with a Hicks Twist!

Sunday 18th February, a beautiful bright sunny day saw fifteen members and two guests in ten cars and a motorcycle, meet up at Hungry Jacks at Haywards Bay all keen for a day of adventure.  We welcomed new members Zan and Phil, as well as Zan’s daughter Jemma, a delightful 16 year old, and Ron Williamson.  Bob and I brought along Jamie, a long time friend visiting from Queensland, and after a shaky start (my ND wasn’t playing nice and I thought I’d be a passenger in Brigid’s car until a tighten up of the battery terminal fixed the problem) we were on our way.

Bryan and Ann took the lead from Kim and Peter Ranger’s run a number of years ago and exploring some beautiful roads around their new home in the Illawarra, led us on this treasure trove of winding country roads and beautiful scenery.

Fitzroy falls
Avoiding motorways, we headed to Macquarie Pass, always a favourite “twister”, to Fitzroy Falls where we stopped for a BYO morning tea, including some delicious home baked goodies by Ann and some not bad 7Eleven brownies (purchased at Haywards Bay by the “challenged baker”, me).  Most of us made the short walk to Fitzroy Falls, which was at its’ amazing best, so many photos were taken from every angle.  We said our farewells at Fitzroy Falls to Heather, David and Steph and we were on our way again.

Twisters

From Fitzroy Falls we headed through Kangaroo Valley over the iconic Hampden Bridge, onto Berry and down to Shoalhaven the Shoalhaven Heads Hotel along some amazing roads, many of which I had never seen before.

Beautiful day, great winding roads, mist over the river, clearing to sunshine.  All in all a fabulous day was had by all, well worthy of Ranger’s Twisters, with a Hicks Twist.

ps  Phil on the motorbike did give us an idea about a future run - "Roadsters and Bikes", stay tuned....
