Round 8 8th November 2020 Wakefield Park Trackday

A Fresh Spring morning greeted a healthy field of 68 enthusiastic  Motorsport competitors to Round 8 for our Final Club Trackday at Wakefield Park for the 2020 season.

Thanks to our Race Secretary Ian Coombes for organising our motorsport events this very difficult and challenging 2020 Covid 19 Season. Our MX5 Club President Keith Monaghan presented  Ian Coombes with a special award for all the hard work he put into this Challenging 2020 Motorsport season.

Race proceedings started at 9.30am with Group 1 cars going out first in fine and sunny conditions.    Our Clerk of Course David Lawler welcomed  7 very nervous first time competitors who followed out Luke Kovacic in his pace car for a practice session. We only had some minor spins  offs with one major incident  involving a MX5 turbo race car catching fire. Thank you to Russell Maxwell and the Fire services for there quick response in putting the fire out with the driver being okay.

We had a total of six run groups and managed to give everyone 6 sessions with up to 46 timed laps.  Once again the Trackday was run under a new simplified Class system comprising of 5 Classes including, Standard, Clubman, Super Clubman, Supersprint and Open Class. Benchmark times are used to award points for places in your class. This system is a lot fairer for all competitors, resulting in that any model mx5 from NA through to ND can win their class respectively.

Congratulations goes to Ralph Thomson in his Turbo NC for the fastest laptime of the day in 66.93 secs. Congratulations goes to Luke Kovacic for his Fastest Naturally Aspirated NC2 laptime of 69.98 secs. Congratulations goes to Jamie Martin and Michael Demaio for achieving their Benchmark Times.

Congratulations also goes to all 1^st Place getters in there respective classes as follows.

• Michael Demaio in Standard Class in his NB8B time 73.68 secs at 100.02%.
• Jamie Martin in Clubman Class in his NA6 time 73.66 secs at 100.33%.
•  Andrew Digney in Super Clubman Class in his NA6 time of 74.38 secs at 98.27%.
• Malcolm Steel in Supersprint Class in his NB8A time of 70.53 secs at 98.25%.
• Ralph Thompson in Open Class in his NC Turbo Race Car time of 66.93 secs.
• Peter Barnwell in Non MX5 Class in his Turbo EVO 6 Car time of  67.60 secs.

 

This was the Final Club Trackday round for the 2020 Season and Congratulations goes to the following drivers in their respective classes.
