On Monday evening the 27 February, 27 Illawarra Chapter members gathered at Towradgi Beach Hotel to celebrate the life of Sandra Reid, who passed away 7 years ago, on what would have been her birthday, 27th February. Both Phil Reid and Bryan Shedden reminded us what a lovely person Sandra was and the contribution made by her in helping to establish the Illawarra Chapter.
Sandra and Phil joined the MX-5 Club of NSW in 2012. In 2013, Sandra became the convenor of the Illawarra Chapter with Phil as co-convenor. Together, they organised many club events, and Phil, being a motor sport enthusiast, organised many tech nights with top-of-the-line' sports car mechanics. You would often see Sandra at Wakefield Park on track days where she assisted wherever she could including 'spotting' from the timing tower.
Together, she and Phil organised monthly runs to Robertson for her cherished cup of tea. This tradition has continued to today - better known as Mazda's in the Mist nowadays, now meeting at Burrawang Store every second Saturday of the month.
Because of her caring nature, Sandra volunteered to be the Illawarra Chapter's Welfare Officer. Should anyone be in hospital or sick at home, she would contact them and wish them a speedy recovery.
In 2015 both of them became joint recipients of the Illawarra Chapter Member of the Year. Phil was also awarded the 2015 Member of the Year for the entire club.
We will always remember her smile, her jokes and her wit and her kind words to everyone.
You are sadly missed dear Sandra.
