Save Wakefield Park e-Petition

If you have even a passing interest in motorsport, particularly in the MX-5 Club, you should be aware that our favourite motorsport venue Wakefield Park has been forced to close recently as the result of an adverse ruling from the Land and Environment Court.

This is the end result of a long running issue over noise at the circuit, brought to a head by a recent development application to improve facilities at the venue.

The MX-5 Club has been running track days at Wakefield Park for as long as we have been doing motorsport – 25 years. Up until the closure, the Club has been routinely running roughly four track days a year at Wakefield Park, including a round of the NSW Supersprint championship. Basically, Wakefield Park has been at the heart of our motorsport for a very long time. That has now come to a shuddering half with the forced closure of the venue.

An e-Petition has been started by a group of motorsport enthusiasts, the aim of which is to petition the NSW government to support the re-opening of the circuit. In order for the petition to be presented to the NSW parliament, 20,000 signatures are need by the 28th October.

As a result of the land and Environment Court ruling, the circuit can only re-open under on a viable basis if a suitable piece of legislation is passed by state parliament – hence the e-Petition.

Currently, the petition has about 15,000 signatures, but progress has slowed in recent days.
