Seal Rocks Run

The meeting point for our Seal Rocks Run was the Port Macquarie Service Centre known locally at the Donut and attracted 10 members in 7 cars. The cars represented a range of MX-5’s from the NA’s to the latest luxury model in a range of beautiful colors. Members included Valerie, Gary , Ken and Rosy, Dayna and Keiran, Allen and Pam, Peter (our new 2022 Convener) and Olaf.
It was a hot, sunny day so tops were lowered and we headed south along the Pacific Highway (at 110 Km!).At Kew we turned off and took the Comboyne Road to the end of the bitumen. The area was so green and beautiful after all the rain and sunny days we’ve had lately. There we did a U turn and headed back to Kew, regrouping there before we returned to the Highway. We continued along the Highway and then turned off at Johns River and took the Stewarts River Road and then Hannan Vale Road to our morning tea stop. Moorland Cottage that is famous for its “Best Scones” and they didn’t disappoint! We all enjoyed scones and coffees in the lovely garden setting. Highly recommended for a coffee (and scone!) stop if you are travelling along the Pacific Highway. Allen and Pam left us there and headed back to Port Macquarie, while Gary joined us there for the rest of the run.
From there we headed south along the Pacific Highway passing through Nabiac (famous for its motorcycle museum) and just south of Coolongolook we took the Wooton Way which was a terrific drive through the forest with lots of challenging corners. We emerged just north of Buladelah and did a dog leg turn and then headed along The Lakes Way which is a scenic drive through Myall Lakes National Park with spectacular forests. Again plenty of good corners! We passed through the tiny villages of Boolambayte and Mayers Flat and at Bungwahl we turned down the Seal Rocks Road. Again beautiful scenery with glimpses of the Myall Lake. We arrived at the small village of Seal Rocks which was very busy with campers and day trippers enjoying the beautiful weather. The road was crowded with cars so we slowly meandered through the village and they turned around and headed to our lunch spot. The ocean and beaches looked very inviting on such a hot day! We retraced our route back along the Seal Rocks Road to Bungwahl where we turned north along The Lakes Way. As we drove along we caught glimpses of Smiths Lake arriving at our lunch stop The Frothy Coffee Boat shed at Smiths Lake village. We had a table out on the deck and enjoyed stunning views of Smiths Lake. All partook of lunch – some had burgers others fish and chips. The food was good and the company even better! Dayna took lots of photos that may be seen on the Mid North Coast Chapter Facebook group that show the feeling of the day. Thanks Dayna for providing a photographic record of the day.
We had a great day with lots of interesting and challenging roads, with excellent weather, good food, good driving and most importantly good companionship. Thanks to Peter for organising and planning a great drive with lots of fast corners which were great fun!
