Nine MX-5s, three days, winding country roads and a healthy helping of wine, food and friendship made for another terrific Hunter Chapter weekend away.
Our adventure began at Huntlee, with the group travelling through Pokolbin and Broke before joining the Golden Highway and stopping at the ever-popular Merriwa Bakehouse for lunch. From there it was on to Mudgee and our base for the weekend at the Winning Post Motor Inn.
Saturday saw us enjoying a picturesque drive to historic Gulgong, where members explored the museum, shops and town before meeting for lunch. A visit to Pieter van Gent Winery followed, with the afternoon left free for members to explore Mudgee’s wineries, breweries and shops. Later we enjoyed the local festival before joining members of the RPM Chapter for dinner.
Sunday began at Mudgee Honey Haven, where honey and mead tastings resulted in a few extra purchases finding their way into the MX-5s. We then headed for Lue Pottery, where Des gave us a fascinating demonstration of how their pottery is made from preparing the clay through to firing the finished pieces.
Our journey home took us through Bylong to Denman for lunch before everyone headed their separate ways.
A great weekend of MX-5 driving, good food, local wine and, most importantly, good friends.
Many thanks to Ray and Marlene for organising another memorable Hunter Chapter weekend away.
