Six MX-5s gathered at the iconic Big Red Bus in Tomerong, ready for two days of driving, good company, and plenty of country roads through New South Wales. With coffees in hand and excitement building, the convoy rolled out, heading along Turpentine Road where Tony joined the group at the Braidwood Road intersection, bringing the total to seven enthusiastic drivers.
From there, the winding roads led through Windellama and on to Goulburn, where a welcome stop at Rose’s Café on Verner Street provided a chance to stretch the legs and enjoy some refreshments. The journey continued through Taralga and on to Crookwell, where Paul’s Café delivered excellent food and plenty of praise from the hungry travellers.
The afternoon saw the convoy continue through Rugby and Boorowa before arriving in Coolamon for the night. After settling into the Coolamon Motel, everyone gathered for dinner at the Coolamon Hotel, sharing stories from the day and looking forward to more driving adventures ahead.
Day Two began with breakfast and a leisurely departure from Coolamon. The route took the group through Temora and Young before arriving back in Boorowa for morning tea. The Boorowa Bakery proved a hit, with its famous cherry pie winning plenty of admirers, while Mark declared the potato pie to be the standout choice.
Continuing on, the convoy returned to Crookwell for lunch at Paul’s Café, which once again delivered great food and friendly service. Refuelled and ready for the final leg, the group headed through Goulburn and Windellama before making their way back to the South Coast.
Special thanks go to Keith, who performed the important role of Tail-End Charlie, making sure no one was left behind and keeping the group together throughout the trip. While the plan for some dirt-road adventures didn’t quite eventuate this time, tradition was upheld with the obligatory U-turn—proving that no drivers’ run is complete without at least one unexpected change of direction.
With great roads, good food, plenty of laughs and the unmistakable sound of MX-5s enjoying the countryside, Drivers Run 2 was another memorable adventure and a reminder that the journey is every bit as enjoyable as the destination.
