Steve’s February Pub Lunch

Several requests were made to me to alter the days I organized my monthly Pub runs. They had been on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. So, today’s run was a Tuesday.

We started at the base of the Cotter Dam and proceeded along Brindabella Road to Uriarra Village where we turned right onto Uriarra road. Uriarra road follows the Murrumbidgee River for several kilometres making the scenery impressive.
The weather was perfect 22 degrees, a few clouds and no wind.

Uriarra Road took us to Fairlight Road and across the border into NSW. Fairlight Road was narrow with no white lines but in very good condition.

The next road was Mountain Creek Road. Notorious for potholes. It too is narrow with no white lines for most of its length. Surprisingly it had been extensively repaired making the run much more enjoyable. Fairlight Road and Mountain Creek Road do not have speed signs for the corners so zooming along roads that are winding, hilly, narrow with unmarked corners which makes for exciting driving in my MX5 NC2 with the roof down.

On the way

There is one sign I noticed that read “Winding road for 35 Kms”. Have you seen a similar sign that exceeds 35klms?

Anyway, there is one bad patch of Mountain Creek Road where you will see a large shearing shed on the eastern side of the road. We had to slow down to a crawl just to be safe. Mountain Creek Road took us to Wee Jasper Road and across the Murrumbidgee River at Taemas Bridge. More amazing scenery as the river has been swollen by months of regular and sometimes heavy rain.

Wee Jasper Road leads to Yass where we turned right and headed to the Barton hHighway and on to Murrumbateman and to the pub for lunch. Being a Tuesday, the pub was not crowded which helps avoid unvaccinated people.

We had eight members in six cars on this run. We had an NA, NB, NC2, ND and 2 RF’s. We also had a prospective new member in a beautifully restored red Triumph Stag. I’m told that these in a road worthy condition are very rare.

Cotter lineup

It was a very enjoyable run (the colours at the Cotter in Autumn are just beautiful) and I will definitely include this run in my portfolio of monthly pub runs.

I was also thinking of starting at 10am rather than 11am and having a “bring your morning tea/coffee” for the first hour.
