The Rivers Plains and Mountains

There are many ways to travel to the Country Club but being the Rivers Plains and Mountains chapter, we decided to use all three.

Fourteen experienced explorers met up at our favourite base camp, Maccas at Windsor, and set off north across the Cumberland Plain into the unknown. The first river to cross was the Hawkesbury at Windsor. Fortunately, the bridge builders knew we were coming and built a new structure quite suitable for our small cars.

Heading onwards and westward beside the river we passed through the agricultural basin and rose up into the hinterland dotted with the residences of famous early settlers.

Cresting the first rise we were blessed with views up through the table lands that make up the Blue Mountains before turning south toward the Grose River where the bridge builders are yet to commence their promised overpass. Forced back down the hill through North Richmond on a road named after Mr. Bell and back over the Hawkesbury we turned south over the plains again to the historic village of Agnes Banks.

Momentarily turning west along Springwood Road and fording the Nepean River and through Yarramundi between the Grose and Nepean we came across a narrow path of winding switchbacks up the side of a sharp rise. For some reason none of our explorers seemed to enjoy the steep climb as they arrived at the top so quickly.

Travelling along the top of the ridge as far south as possible with our meagre equipment we turned east again and followed the pathway surveyed by Messrs Blaxland Wentworth and Lawson down via Mr Lennox’s stone bridge and back over the Nepean River as far as the Northern Road.

Starting to feel hungry we searched near by only to find an exotic meal room called Lili and Luna’s as part of a large establishment with lots of green land and people hitting little white balls with sticks. The happy explorers feasted on fine fare and ale with loud voices discussing their next adventure.
