The Producers run and Theatre

Eight cars and sixteen members set off from Newcastle for Tamworth to see the Tamworth Musical Society’s production of Mel Brooks’ The Producers.
This annual Hunter Chapter outing has become a favourite—always a fun overnight trip paired with a top-quality theatrical experience. One of our chapter members, Stephen Carter, is part of the Tamworth Musical Society and has previously performed on stage; this time, however, he took on the role of director.
As we left Newcastle, the day was already heating up with temperatures climbing into the 30s. We headed north-west to the Hunter Belle Cheese Factory & Café in Muswellbrook for lunch, which—as always—was excellent.
After Muswellbrook, the weather began to build. By the time we reached Willow Tree, thunderstorms had closed in. Thunder and scattered rain finally forced even the staunchest top-down drivers to concede and put the roofs up. We stopped briefly at Wallabadah, and as we departed a hailstorm swept through—luckily behind us—so we continued on to Tamworth unscathed.
After checking into our lodgings, the carpark quickly turned into a cheerful social gathering before we headed to the theatre.
The production was outstanding. Being a Mel Brooks show, the comedy and innuendo kept us laughing in the aisles. As a musical, it featured plenty of singing, all performed to an impressively high standard.
Bravo to Stephen and the entire Tamworth Musical Society—an excellent production thoroughly enjoyed by all.
For the return trip, everyone did their own thing in the morning and made their way home at their own pace.
Another fantastic Tamworth theatre trip—one we’re sure to repeat next year.
