Alpine Escape 2023
March 2023 will see the annual enthusiasts’ pilgrimage to the Victorian High Country and Snowy Mountains, on a 2-night 3 day run that will start from Goulburn on Friday 24th March 2023, hosted by the Breakfast Club.
Goulburn is around 2-hours’ drive from Sydney and those participating will have the option of either driving down sometime on Thursday, or having a very early start on Friday (not recommended). This year we have planned 3 days over some of the best MX-5 driving roads in the country, with everybody responsible for making their own arrangements for accommodation at our nominated motel; or wherever you wish to bunk down for the night close by. THE RUN
If you are starting from Sydney, you can expect to log up around 2000km on your odometer over three days with special sections and transition stages each day. This annual event has sections of road ranging from highways and A & B Class roads to Hard and Very Hard challenging alpine and forest roads. The Alpine Escape 2023 is a waypoint run and not for novice drivers; having early starts on runs of around 500km behind the wheel each day, to take in some fantastic and scenic driving sections of road.
Breakfast and dinner will be our main sit-down meals, with coffee and light refreshments in between each day. We will have Stop Rest Survive breaks at our usual haunts, but are open to any suggestions for a new refreshment stop en route or for a meal.
Day 1 Friday March 24th, 2023, will see us head from Goulburn to Cooma for breakfast, then it's Cooma to Bright driving some special MX-5 roads featuring The Alpine Way (a 5-star road) Through places such as Shelly, Tallangatta and then across through Kancoona To Bright. We can fuel up at Khancoban to get us all the way to Bright. We can check in to our rooms and get settled before a dinner to review the days driving, chat about the next day’s circuit but most of all just relax and enjoy the company.
Day 2 Saturday 25th March 2023 Bright To Bright. This day is sort of up for grabs. It will however take us through Omeo for Breakfast. But this is where things may change. We could either be going over Falls Creek or out through the twists and turns of Mitta Mitta. It will depend on road closures. Either way the drive will be challenging, Fun, Scenic and most of all just what we want to do in our pocket rockets. After this we will all need some well-earned R&R back at our Hotel where a little Nanna Nap might be had before dinner.
Day 3 Sunday 26th March 2023 will see the run back to Sydney. We plan to return through Jingellic then Tumbarumba for breakfast We will then hit some back roads across to Gundagai via Batlow. We will refuel at Goulburn and grab a pie at Tappers Bakery. Then it settles in back up the Hume to home
