Australia Day Run to Avon Dam
Let's kick off 2015 with a fabulous Australia Day celebration at Avon Dam for a BBQ Picnic. Meeting time will be 9:00am for a 9:15am departure. Our aim is to arrive at Avon Dam very soon after the 10am opening so that we can maximise our chances of getting a good picnic shelter!
Our unusual starting point at Figtree McDonalds will give us convenient access to our route via Mount Keira Road. This road was recently reopened after Wollongong Council spent $1.75 million over the last four years, on repair, reconstruction and slope and cliff stabilisation works. After Mount Keira, we will zip up Picton Road and then turn south for Avon Dam. This will be a short run of only 55km and just under one hour. The final 5km of tight & twisty road to our picnic spot is an MX-5 delight!
At Avon Dam, we will be meeting up with club members from the Sydney and RPM Chapters.
Free electric BBQs are provided at the dam, but BYO everything else.
